Yes, You CAN Wear a Tutu Past the Age of Five—Here’s How

Blame it on an inherent weakness for all things girly, but there’s something about a tutu we just can’t resist. That swishy, multi-layered fabric makes us want to twirl and frolic even more than anew One Direction song, and contrary to what you might guess, it can actually be one of the most versatile pieces in your closet.

You can go the classic route and dress it up with a pretty tucked in blouse or silk crop top with sparkly heels like Chandamheer (above right). We love this look for prom, especially with wavy, unfussy hair. Or, you can give your tutu the work- or school-appropriate treatment with a more casual sweater or long-sleeve and polished flats or sandals like Audrey (above middle) and Laura(above left).

Another option is to break out your favorite vintage tee, leather jacket, and Converse high-tops for an easy weekend look that’s just a little bit cooler than your standard jean uniform. The bottom line is a big, tulle-covered skirt might just be your new wardrobe best friend…if you give it a chance. What do you think: Do you give tutus a yay or nay?
