Summer can be a very confusing time for beauty. After all, there’s a lot of sweat, a lot of sun, and a whole lot of chalky-white SPF. Sometimes it seems like nobody understands that better than the vloggers on YouTube—the real girls testing, trying on, and talking all about the products that come their way. So while at Beautycon NYC, a fashion and beauty summit for the internet’s most influential personalities, we asked each video star what they simply can’t do without this season. Read on to find out what made their lists!
Allie Marie Evans ofGlass Slipper Beauty: “Summer beauty is all about looking like you didn’t try, but looking great because you actually did…so obviously a good bronzer is essential! It’s the start of summer right now, and I don’t have a tan quite yet. For some much-needed color, I loveToo Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer. It smells like chocolate, and who doesn’t like chocolate? Also, to add a little bit of a glow to my complexion, I loveTarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful, a peachy pink. It’s formulated to last 12 hours, so I don’t need to reapply it when I’m running around with my friends. Hydrating your lips is actually just as important in the summertime as it is in the cold weather, so I rely onCrème de Rose Lip Balm by Christian Dior, then layer it withMaybelline Color Elixir. It’s my favorite lip gloss right now—I feel like after you go to the beach and you’re just hanging out with friends, you can slap it on and it looks like you at least put in a little effort. I finish by usingBumble and Bumble Surf Sprayon my hair. It’s like salt water, so it looks like you just spent the day on the ocean.”
Fleur de Force: “SPF 50 is the most important thing about summer beauty, so I useNeutrogena Healthy Defense. I always wear factor 50 on my face! I also love waterproof mascara so I don’t worry about flakes in the warmer weather—my favorite isCoverGirl Lashblast. And obviously, a funSeafolly bikiniand aFree People playsuitare perfect for the beach!”
Carli Bybel ofThe Beauty Bybel: “It’s all about luminosity in the summer, so I love a highlighter for a glowing look. I’m intoSephora‘s luminizing powder—it doubles as an eyeshadow! A BB cream is a must because it’s a lot better for your face when it’s super hot out. TryNeutrogena Visibly Even. Liquid illuminators, likeRevlon SkinLights, are great, too! I mix them in with my foundation. I also really like theWhitening Lightninglip gloss because you don’t really need lipstick under it. And, of course, I love theLaura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealerfor any imperfections.”
Adelaine Morin ofC0ok1eMonster: “Waterproof mascara is the most essential—my favorite isMaybelline The Rockerbecause it stays on all day, even when you’re swimming at a pool party. Eyeliner is also a must, since a winged look makes your eyes seem instantly larger. My favorite is byelf Cosmeticsbecause it’s only $1 and it really works. You should either do a lip gloss or balm and avoid lipstick since the heat can make you feel chapped.NYX Butter Glossis always in my summer bag whenever I go out! And also, I like theNYX Cream Blusha lot because it stays on and gives a really quick, natural glow. I just use my fingers to apply it. To finish,Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzeris a little expensive, but it imitates a really nice, natural tan for summer.”
Dani Austin: “I love to use a self-tanner to make it look like I’ve spent all day at the beach without exposure to the sun’s harmful rays. My favorite isBare Minerals Faux Tancollection for both body and face. I love that you can see the actual tint as you’re applying it, so you can easily tell if you’ve missed a spot. Sunscreen is also obviously important, but I have acne-prone skin, so I stick to oil-free formulas to prevent breakouts. My favorite isNeutrogena’s Clear Face SPFbecause it’s lightweight and dries with a matte finish. I layer it withBobbi Brown’s BB Creambecause it offers moisture, coverage, and protection. On my hair, I rely onLiving Proof No Frizz Treatment. It keeps my strands healthy and shiny—it’s a total life-saver! Finally, to keep my energy up and feeling good, I also take B12 vitamins. In the short term, low B12 levels can lead to fatigue and mood changes, which can prevent you from feeling your best!”
